Insights into manufacturing and a high level of in-house development

At the start of the visit, Co-Managing Director Dr Stefan Ponto presented the product portfolio of GANSHORN Medizin Electronic GmbH to the guests in the showroom. During the subsequent tour of the factory, the focus was primarily on the production of high-precision body plethysmographs for lung function diagnostics, as well as on the company’s own research and development (R&D) department. Minister Aiwanger was impressed by the high proportion of employees involved in development. Twenty per cent of the total workforce is directly involved in development, within the core areas of hardware, sensor technology, and software.

Forward-looking discussion: artificial intelligence in diagnostics

During the continuation of the factory tour through the production area, an open discussion took place in which Minister Aiwanger specifically enquired about the company’s current challenges and strategic plans for the future. The discussion with Dr Ponto also covered future developments in diagnostics. Among other things, GANSHORN is exploring ways to eventually support medical professionals in interpreting complex measurement results using AI-supported methods. Aiwanger praised this strong entrepreneurial commitment. “Other companies can take this as a model: think long-term, invest in their own expertise and keep an eye on international markets.” The fact that GANSHORN is investing in the ongoing development of its high-precision devices for pulmonary function diagnostics, particularly during economically challenging times, sends a strong signal about the future viability of Bavaria and the Rhön-Grabfeld region as a medical technology hub.
